A Letter to Wrap Up the Year

Dear 2013 Ashley,

I know it sounds like an exaggeration, but you can safely say that this was the year that changed your life.

The person sitting here writing this today, is not that same person who woke up on January 1st, 2013. That girl knew big things were on the horizon and she would be taking huge leaps forward, but she never could have imagined this.

This is the year you pulled the string and quit your job as a non-profit counselor. You courageously walked away from something that was toxic and unhealthy so that you could focus on your passion and build Your Super Awesome Life. I know you were so ready to move on to your next adventure, but I don’t want you to discount how much grace and patience it took  you to stick it out for 3 years before leaving. That is when you learned how to open up your heart, how to meet people where they are, and how to hold your own in moments of conflict. You learned how to push through the bad days, lean into the good, and feel it all without letting it break you.

This was the year your ran your second and third half-marathons, setting a new personal record each time! Then you committed to and trained for the Chicago marathon. Remember the girl a few years ago who couldn’t run for 2 minutes? She’s grown into a marathoner! It was 4 intense months of discipline and dedication. Months of blisters, aching muscles, and sore feet. It was when you learned to push yourself to your edge and not give up when things become unbearable, because they never really are. You crossed the finish line 27 seconds under your goal time and promptly began crying tears of joy and disbelief. It was the best day.

This was the year you moved away from your home Texas and spent two 3-month stints in Canada with Peter. You learned what it’s like to live together in love, how to create your own space, and how to build your own routine in a new country. You learned how to have difficult conversations with gentle honesty and how necessary lazy nights in bed watching New Girl can be.

This was the year you began taking Your Super Awesome Life seriously and treating it like the business it deserves to be. You enrolled in B-school and invested in a 9-month business coaching program. You began the Inspirational Interview series and launched Ashley’s Video Diary. You revamped your one-on-one coaching packages (more than once!), offered Pay What You Want sessions, and created three new group coaching programs- Passion Power, Say Yes to You, and Dream Quest. When you weren’t busy coaching clients, you created the Transition Made Easy workbook and Cake for Breakfast guide. You learned how much you enjoy the process of being creative and made it a goal to add more of that into your daily routine.

This was the year you began creating deep relationships with new friends you met through Your Super Awesome Life. You began a collaboration project that will launch early next year that you’re super excited about. You also realized you were feeling a bit alone, so you started an accountability group for small business owners to get together, set goals, and encourage each other to follow through each week. It’s so fun!

This was the year you went to Boston in February, the beach in June, and Denver/Boulder in July. You completed VEDA in August (for the 4th year in a row), and you’re currently wrapping up a challenge to run at least a mile every day between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

Basically, what I’m saying is, you killed it.

Wishing you a 2014 filled with just as much adventure, connection, love, and abundance.
