8 ways to have a super awesome day

The sun is shining, the umbrellas are propped open, and there’s a delicious pink drink in your hand. You are completely relaxed and can’t imagine yourself anywhere else. The palm tress hovering overhead and the light breeze tickling your skin. This is paradise.

Or is that just a dream haunting you from fantasy land?

We’re in the thick of summer, deep into July, and the days seem endless.

Whether you’re actually living in a dream vacation, or still slugging away at your 9-5, today is the perfect moment for you to re-focus your energy and create abundant new memories.

And since everlasting memories are born out of super awesome days, here are my favorite ways to make that happen.

8 Ways To Have A Super Awesome Day

1. Have a dance party.

The easiest way to transform your day is with some happy music. Obviously, my first choice is always Hanson, but some of my other favorites include Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Ke$ha (hey, I never claimed to have the best taste). Putting on some upbeat and catchy music is almost guaranteed to boost your mood instantly. To get you started, I made a playlist for you here.

2. Take a mini road trip.

One of my absolute favorite things to do when I have no plans is to jump in the car and drive somewhere I’ve never been before. Sometimes I’ll have a destination in mind, like a dreamy winery, but other times, I just drive until I see something interesting. Exploring the world around you adds a sense of adventure to your life which, for many people, is equated with happiness.

3. Write a love letter to yourself.

I know it sounds incredibly cheesy (and yeah, it kind of is), but when you sit down and write a letter to yourself full of your positive qualities, strengths, and quirks you love about yourself, you’re showering yourself with love. It can be a powerful experience and it’s actually an exercise I assign to many of my clients in our coaching sessions.

4. Make a blanket fort.

Yep, just like when you were 7 years old and spent your lazy Saturday afternoons curled up with a sleeping bag under a your incredible fortress of blankets (NO BOYS ALLOWED!). Grab a bowl of popcorn, put on a marathon of House Hunters, and you’re all set!

5. Move your body.

You don’t have to go to the gym, but getting off the couch and raising your heart rate will always make you feel awesome. You can go for a walk, try a new yoga class, or even go hard-core with a 30-day Shred Video in your living room.  When you move your body, it releases endorphins and endorphins make you happy. (Am I right, Elle Woods?)

6. Take a long lunch break

Breaking up the work day with a long lunch feels like such a luxury, doesn’t it? Try out a new restaurant in town, browse through the racks at that fancy boutique, and splurge on some frozen yogurt. Then you’ll return to the office feeling refreshed, inspired, and motivated to finish off the afternoon.

7. Make your favorite meal.

Spending time in the kitchen preparing a few dishes that you absolutely love is a perfect way to turn a mediocre day into a super awesome day. For me, this would include roasted red pepper bruschetta, and spinach salad with ripe avocado, and homemade turtle cheesecake. Yum!

8. Host a dress up party.

Pull out all of your old prom dresses that’s been hanging in your closet since college. Invite the girls over, put on some dancin’ tunes, and create your own fashion show. It’s sure to bring up hilarious memories of the old days and also create some new ones. You can’t go wrong with that.

How fun! When my friend Brittany worked with me we would pull out our iPhones and dance. One day we did the Wobble for a full five minutes, lol. Sadly, we don’t work together anymore, though. (Also, one of my favorite episodes of Froends is when Ross moves in with Joey and Chandler after breaking up with his wife, Emily, and Joey makes a fort out of his moving boxes.) one f my favorite things to do in high school was drive down random dirt roads and sight-see. I enjoyed a lot of rustic scenery that way, but I haven’t done it in a while.

Hmmm. If I were planning a super awesome day, it would consist of my hammock, my dog, sex, pizza, church friends, and a long conversation with my husband. It doesn’t take much to please me. :)

There’s no way I’d ever be able to fit into my prom dress again. Lulz. I was so small back then!
